Decimal betting odds
Decimal odds are very popular in Europe. They tell how much money do we win if we bet 1 unit. For example, bet 1 EUR on someone with a 2.5 odd will return 2.5 EUR. However this is not the profit we receive. To calculate profit, one has to deduct the money we put in out of the money we got out.
Example:
Chelsea has an odd @2.2 to win
We bet 10 EUR on Chelsea
Bet: 10 EUR x 2.2 = 22 EUR
Profit: 22 EUR - 10EUR = 12 EUR
Fractional betting odds
Fractional odds are written in a form of a fraction and are mostly used in England . They, however, tell us of our profit, not of the payout.
Example:
Chelsea has an odd @9/10 to win
We bet 10 EUR on Chelsea
Bet: 10 EUR x 9/10 = 9 EUR
Profit: 9 EUR
Comparison between decimal and fractional odds:
Fractional odd of 9/10 equals a decimal odd of @1.9. We get this number by simply adding 1 to the value of the fractional odd.
Example:
9/10 + 1 = 1.9
American betting odds
American odds are, as the name says, most popular in the USA . They tell us how much must we bet in order to get a certain amount of profit. They are written in either a positive or negative sign. A negative sign tells us how much must we bet to have a 100$ profit. A positive sign says how much profit we will have if we bet 100$.
Example:
Chelsea has an odd -150 to win
Odd -150 tells us, that we have to bet 150$ in order to have 100$ of profit.
Chelsea has and odd 200 to win
Odd 200 tells us, that if we bet 100$ we will receive 200$ profit. Odd 200 equals a decimal odd of @3.0
